From a young age I witnessed my dad set an example of hard work. From his example I grew to love a challenge and started working at an early age. I always found jobs that allowed me to be involved in athletics and the gentle sport of rodeo, in particular bull riding. By the end of my senior year I was rodeoing and working full time at Smiths Food and Drug in the produce department which to this day has resulted in melon based puns from my kids. Within twelve years of graduating high school I worked my way to head corporate produce buyer based out of Southern California.
I was in charge of buying and supplying 3 warehouses and maintaining proper rotation to provide high quality produce for our consumers. This helped me develop an attention to detail as well as fostering and maintaining relationships in the community. My plate had runneth over with produce.
I decided to bet on myself and with a partner started Eagle Eye produce by using the relationships I had developed at Smith’s. I moved to Nogales AZ and went to work contracting growers in Mexico. I realized I wasn’t too bad at this salesman thing, quickly earning the business of national chains, national foodservice companies (Sysco), and other wholesalers across the country. Eagle Eye now thrives as a produce shipping company.
Within this time frame I was also diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and as you can see it wasn’t a challenge I backed down from. I valued family and support systems during hard times even more after that.
I’ve come to love and appreciate what Southeast Idaho has to offer, as my wife is a local to the area. I thought I had retired but missing a challenge, I’ve found a new career in real estate and hobby in team roping which is much safer than the bulls.
